Seventy-five highly unique statues of Mickey Mouse were auctioned off by Sotheby's on September 27. Each one of these statues was a one of a kind creation. Among those who designed the statues were Sir Elton John, Michelle Kwan and Tom Hanks. In addition to celebrities from Music Sports and Movies, many of the statues were created by legends from the world of Disney itself. Al Konetzni, Lori Tyminski and Tuck Morgan are all easily recognized names to those who love Disney. Their statues attracted just as much, if not more, attention than those created by celebrities.
Each statue measured six feet tall and some were as heavy as 700 pounds. Since Mickey's 75th Anniversary on November 18, 2003, the statues have traveled 700,000 mile across the country as the “Celebrate Mickey: 75 InspEARations” tour. Over 20 million people saw the statues as they went to 14 different cities.
The complete sale price of each statue went to a charity specified by the statue's creator. “Mickey through the Years” by Tuck Morgan of Disney Consumer Products, realized $21,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The $15,000 received for Tom Hanks' creation “Space Mouse” went to the James Birrell Neuroblastoma Research Fund. For the complete results of this incredible auction, please visit
